quick summary of Sony's E3 press conference

Not much of interest, honestly.  It wasn't the epic bed-shitting that Nintendo had on display, but they certainly didn't show anything that made me want a PS3.  None of their exclusive games are the kind of games I'd buy a system for... nothing from the Ico guys, basically no surprises at all.

I'd definitely give the show to Microsoft, but they weren't really all THAT strong.  All around, nothing terribly exciting or surprising.  Maybe PAX will be better?  Maybe I'm just getting too old to be excited about a lot of this stuff?

Stay tuned to my news feed, as I'll be passing along all the bits and pieces from here and there that look interesting.  Lots of trailers and live demo videos, I imagine.

Animal Crossing: City Folk, for Wii
WiiSports Resort - with a new "1:1 motion" dongle
WiiMusic - which is quite possibly the most uncomfortable product demo I've seen

... oh, and a giant bucket of FAIL.

That really couldn't have been worse... and Nintendo has owned the show (at least for me) for the last several years.  Animal Crossing should be fun... but nothing else looks appealing in the least....

UPDATE: I did forget one fairly large shocker... GTA: Chinatown Wars.... for DS?  Strange days, indeed.

mr. whedon, it has been too long

Act One of Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog is now freely available... for a limited time, as I understand it.  I just finished watching it (twice), and it is simply fantastic.   Watch it immediately, or I'm afraid we can't be friends.

Act Two drops on Thursday (7/17), and Act Three on Saturday (7/19).  After that, it goes offline and will eventually come out on DVD.  At least, I think that's how it works.  Doesn't matter anyway... since you are already over there watching it... aren't you?

quick summary of Microsoft's E3 Press Conference

System:

The Dashboard will have a COMPLETE overhaul this fall, incorporating Mii-like "avatars" that you can customize and dress up and such.  New nifty "live party" functions, online XBL gameshows where you can win new prizes, media sharing, etc.   I have no problems with the current interface, but it is a little surprising to see them shake it up so much.

NETFLIX!!!  You can watch your instant queue on the Xbox, and even sync up with your live party and watch together online.  Pretty tits.

Games:

Live demos of Fallout 3, Resident Evil 5, Fable 2, Gears of War 2.  All look pretty excellent, and my excitement for them falls in pretty much that order.   Seriously, Fallout 3 looks INCREDIBLE.

Rockband 2 will have 84 master tracks on the disc, and 20 additional songs as FREE DLC later this year... apparently they didn't have time to get them on the disc.  THIS is how you make fans, Activision.  Guitar Who-ro?  IGN has the entire Rockband 2 track list... and fuck me, it is amazing.

Lips, a new karaoke game with a flashy, light-up motion-sensitive mic... and you can use your own music.  Made by the guys who did Gitaroo Man and Oenden....  if I didn't want this anyway, the wife would demand it.

FINAL FANTASY XIII... and on launch day, no less.  I hope you have some healing salve for that asshole, Sony.

Good times, in my opinion.  Nothing that I would call mind-blowing (aside from Final Fantasy, maybe), but I am soooo stoked for the Netflix thing, it is not even funny.  Tune in tomorrow for Nintendo... and maybe Sony if it doesn't bore me to tears... [/fanboy]
